After 3 years of designing my own manual coffee press as a hobby, I did some comparisons to other machines and noticed that a Flair Pro produces a shot that is quite different in taste to the 58mm used on my machine. After some pondering I put it down to the basket dimensions. So I modded a 58mm basket to fit a Flair basket and run it through my manual press as well as a Gaggia Baby. And confirmed that the basket shape was creating a sweeter and full-bodied taste. I was truly amazed. I started googling this and initially didn't exactly find the same discovery. That was in part because i didn't know what this was called and few blogs referred to 46mm baskets. AFter further digging I then came across the 49mm baskets as found with original italian lever presses and then on to Lance Hedrick and Sworks with the stepped, milled baskets. It was so cool to see that smaller diameters could, in fact, be really good.
Based off that I made some tampers and funnels to help improve the workflow.
